History

The Lee County Community band was originally formed  on November 21, 1885.  The first order of business was to order instruments, which arrived a couple of months later, purchased with donations from fellow citizens of the newly incorporated Fort Myers.  Weekly rehearsals began at the home of Mrs. S.E. Titus, but before long the neighbors complained so loud that the band was banished to the end of the town dock for practices.  The band was originally known as the Fort Myers Brass Band, and then the Fort Myers Military Band.

The first public performance of the band was March 25, 1886 when it marched to Seminole Lodge and serenaded Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edison who had just moved into their new winter home.

In the gay nineties, the band often performed in the bandstand at Second and Lee Streets.

The band celebrated it's 120th anniversary in February of 2006 at a concert at the Cape Coral High School.  Like most concerts the auditorium was filled almost to capacity.

Today, the Lee County Community Band is a voluntary organization made up of musicians from all walks of  life.  New members are welcome.  We often have openings in most sections of  the band.

The band performs free public concerts monthly from November through April, then takes the summer off.   We also will play for other events on occasion.
